- Six Strings - Departures

(Departures - Mirrored Insight)

I've been playing around with a few chord progressions lately, and I finally got one stuck in my head that I just absolutely could not get out.  I played a progression between D, A, D, and A7 trying to figure out how to link them together with the rest of a tune that I couldn't quite get out of my head and into my fingers.  Curiously, it was my Godson Tyler that ended up providing me with the nudge I needed.  The poor little guy had come down with some kind of virus that manifested as nasal congestion, and he was having a damnable time taking his bottle one evening, so I took him into a quiet part of the house, lowered the lights a little, and started humming the main melody of the tune that I'd been trying to complete.  When I got to the end of what I'd managed to produce, the rest of the tune just sort of...came out.  I hummed the whole thing a few more times, trying to match up what I was doing to chords and fingerings in my head, and by the time I realized that I had it all taken care of, Tyler had finished his bottle and was gurgling quietly in the crook of my arm.

In the end, I got the music I was after, and all it cost me was the head cold that Tyler gave me as a result of my proximity to him.  A fair trade, I feel.

It's not quite finished yet -- I'll most likely make a real recording with my condenser mic, but this is most of something that I've decided to call 'Departures'.

FTR D: No idea what this chord is called.  It's a normal D-Chord, but instead of fretting the G string on the second fret, I'm fretting the D string on the second fret and fiddling with my first finger on high E where appropriate to the music.

HA: A high 'A' chord variant.  E chord shape, 6th fret.

HB: A high 'B' chord variant.  E chord shape, 8th fret.

B: B chord with high E left open.

F#m: Fretting E, B, and G on the second fret, sometimes called a D6 chord.

Em/G: This is actually a real chord, a standard Em with the high e fretted on the 3rd.
