- Six Strings - Escalations

 (Escalations v1 - Mirrored Insight)

Most 'guitar people' I know have a guitar buddy that they bounce stuff off of, and I'm no exception.  A good guitar buddy can perform a variety of roles.  Mine tends to swoop in out of nowhere, tell me I don't suck nearly as much as I think I do, and then very gently suggest a few possible paths for exploration with the next piece of music that I noodle on.

He's pretty much a national treasure.

Anyway, after listening to 'Unable To Dream' after I posted it online, he mentioned that I seemed to at least have the basics down where rhythm was concerned, and would I maybe consider some kind of improv solo work?  I've never really been a solo guy as much as my guitar idols are like...probably two of the best solo players in the history of the art.  Still, his 'ask' was oddly timely.  I'd been hearing a bass riff in my head for a few weeks now, and had already started roughly playing around with what I could put on top of it.  No surprise, I thought about putting a rhythm track down on top of it first.  I got my trusty looper out, laid the bass track down -- which doesn't sound nearly as cool as it should because I had to do it on a guitar and not a bass -- but then I started idly picking away at a string or two while I listened to it play back, and...well, this happened.

I'd love to sit here and type, "Not sure what else I'll do with this," but the fact of the matter is, I already know damn good and well what I want to do with it now.  Unfortunately, I don't have a bassist.  Or a drummer.  That'll have to wait.
